SPORTS NUTRITION-WHAT TO EAT BEFORE
GAMES AND PRACTICES

How times has this happened to you? Practice is at 6pm, your son or
daughter has just completed their homework, you’re driving them to
practice, and they haven’t yet eaten anything. Probably more often than
we would like. As a coach, there’s nothing quite like the site of an athlete
wolfing down the remains of a Big Mac as practice is about to begin. read more

What should an athlete eat before a game?
What you eat every day can have a big effect on how you perform. What you eat right
before an event can be critical.
Before a game, your digestive processes may be slowed down by your keyed-up
emotional state. To allow for this condition, you should eat an easily digestible meal no
later than three hours before the contest. Avoid foods that contain substantial
amounts of fats or oils. Fats are more slowly digested than other nutrients. Trying to
participate with a high-fat meal still in your stomach is a losing proposition. Meals high
in starches are better because they are digested more rapidly than fats or oils. Read more

"Success is no accident. It is hard work, perseverance, learning, studying, sacrifice and most of all, love of what you are doing or learning to do." ~Pele

While people are born with talent, and a passion for soccer can be discovered in just an instant, becoming a champion doesn’t happen overnight. It takes years of practice, conditioning, and perseverance to turn your body into a goal-scoring and game-winning phenomenon. But it’s worth it. Learn more....

Why? Because some things are beyond your control. For example, some bodies are just better built for soccer than others (just like some people have a better body type for basketball or gymnastics than others). But there are a great many things that are within your power to change and create. One of those things is your ability to transform your body from a reasonably fit athlete to the most amazing soccer player it could ever

To identify players of the highest caliber on a continuing and consistent basis, which will lead to increased success for the U.S. National Teams in the international arena.

Purpose

The US Youth Soccer Olympic Development Program was formed in 1977 to identify a pool of players in each age group from which a National Team will be selected for international competition; to provide high-level training to benefit and enhance the development of players at all levels; and, through the use of carefully selected and licensed coaches, develop a mechanism for the exchange of ideas and curriculum to improve all levels of coaching.

EDDOA League Play Layout

2007-2008

Below is the plan for league play for the soccer year 2007-2008. As with all plans in

soccer, it is subject to change due to weather and other influences. Each team should

check their schedule every Thursday to be sure they have not missed a change.

The League is a year round league (begins in fall and ends just prior to Cup play). The

league will award a midyear champion and an overall champion in all age groups except

the U11s. The league will not schedule games on Labor Day weekend (Premier League

does play on this weekend), Thanksgiving weekend, between December 22nd to

January 27th, and on Easter weekend March 22-23. The league does not intend to

schedule games on the weekend of March 15-16 because of Spring Break.

Value of Fitness Goes Beyond Soccer Field

Youth Soccer Month is not just a celebration of the sport of soccer itself, but also what it means to take part and be associated with America’s largest and most popular youth sport.

One of the clearest benefits of soccer is the fitness derived from participating in this fast-paced sport.  Physically fit people typically feel better, have more energy, have better eating habits and sleep better.  There is no substitute for fitness. One doesn’t have to be the best player on the field, or the smartest. But if someone is in the best shape, they have a huge advantage.

U.S. Soccer Federation Issues New Hydration Guidelines to Prevent Dangerous Heat Illness in Young Players

New First-of-Its-Kind Study Shows Chronic Dehydration is a Significant Issue Among Youth Soccer Players

CHICAGO, June 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Adolescent males typically lose up to 1.5 liters of sweat per hour when performing intense soccer activities in the heat, says a new first-of-its-kind study from the University of Connecticut presented this week at the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) annual conference in Denver, Colorado. The three-year research project also showed that nearly two-thirds of male and female youth soccer players are dehydrated before they even take the field and the average hydration routine observed by parents and coaches isn't preventing the problem. However, educational intervention implemented by researchers positively influenced hydration knowledge and attitudes among youth soccer players, and improved the chances of proper hydration status on the field.
